A summary of the world's main business events from The Economist

     A RATE'S PROGRESS

The Thai government FLOATED THE BAHT. Despite a two percentage-point hike in the country's key lending rate to 12.5%, the battered currency plunged to a record low against the dollar, in effect devaluing the baht by 15-20% in a single day. As foreigners rushed to buy, the Thai stockmarket rose by 17% in 48 hours.

Subject: The Three Broads Abroad in Singapore

Scotty called home this morning (Saturday @ 7:30am for us, Sunday @ 10:30pm in tomorrowland) to let us know how much they were enjoying their round of Singapore Slings at The Long Bar in the Raffles Hotel (where they were invented).  This is their last evening together - Tomorrow Julea leaves them to fly to Bangkok (smart lady) instead of the local transportation the other two are taking, before returning home.

Apparently their return to Bali was lots of fun (although the 9 hour bus trip from Yogyakarta was grueling), and Scotty had the "best dive possible" on the Liberty wreck.....apparently she was the only one of the three to dive, and she and the dive master were the only ones on the wreck on a  night when the moon was so bright that they could turn off their lights.............it must have been great because she is not allowed to talk or write about it any more n front of the others.........they are jealous I guess.

From Singapore, Scotty & Josie are headed to "some little islands on the inland side" of Thailand (I assume that's the Gulf of Thailand side) at an "inexpensive place on the other side of the peninsula from a well known expensive dive place".

The three of them have promised to find an internet cafe tomorrow and send one last 3BA Indonesia/Singapore travelogue.
