Subject: Two Broads Abroad - Thailand (Finally)
Scotty called last nite (mid-day July 26th in tomorrowland) from the airport at Kuala Lampur, Malaysia - they were to leave 2 hours later for Bangkok, then on to Pattaya, Thailand at a hotel operated by Monta Chaiyabal's friend.
Monta will join them with her family on their 27th (probably around 1 or 2am our time). The girls are looking forward to meeting her but hope its late -- they need showers and clean clothes - apparently their 3 day island sojourn did not include washing clothes and such things. They are still having a great time, and although still somewhat weak from her bout with food poisoning a few weeks ago, Scotty is feeling well.
If I understood her correctly, since leaving Julea at Singapore's Changi Airport, they returned to Singapore for an additional day, then traveled to Kuala Lampur. They then visited Kota Bharu (or Baharu depending on which map you read), Kelantan State on the South China Sea next to Thailand, from which Josie called her Mother, then they were off to an island called Pulau Kecil (small island), which along with Pulau Besar (big island) make up what is called Pulau Perhentian, 2 kilometers off the coast off Besut, Terengganu, Malaysia, the next State south of Kelantan (on the web, Pulau Perhentian is usually called "the island" instead of the two that it is, and there is a Pulau Besar in Johor State - it can be confusing). Along the way they met two 19 year old British travelers and a 25 year old Malaysian having trouble getting rooms like they did, so the teamed up with them - its been good apparently in that they have not been hassled like when they are without escort.
They did not get a chance to dive in Pulau Kecil but did snorkel and found it beautiful there also.
Finally they have not been in touch because of the difficulty in finding operable telephones. They expect to be able to use the internet and telephone in Thailand, so will be in contact more often. Their future plans remain much the same as before except they now plan to fly from Saigon to Hanoi instead of traveling overland. |
